The Brahmaputra river system, the largest in the Northeast, is unique. It is distinguished by its glacial origins, location in a highly seismic zone, heavy and intense rainfall resulting in ‘flashy’ rivers, a high sedimentation rate and an intricate link with the ecology of the beels in the plains.
